Workshops with storyteller and author Loren Niemi, offered by Lake Superior Writers.
Plot Session, 9am to 12pm
How do you move beyond the standard narrative habit? This participatory workshop can change how you shape stories. It examines ten useful plot forms, both the familiar and the exotic for the creation of lively narratives. This hands-on workshop includes sample stories, formulas for structuring and considerations of how the various plot forms function as well as group and individual exercises on how they are shaped and a handout.
Point of View Session, 1:30pm to 4:30pm
Beyond the plot of the story, the how we get from here to there, the essential question is ”who is telling the story?” Is the narrator speaking from the first, second, or third person point of view and in the present or the past? This is a hands-on exploration of the how and why of those choices with exercises in shaping each of them before, during and after “the moment” as you craft an engaging narrative experience.
