This event is free and open to the public!
Humans sitting around the campfire telling stories--we have been doing this since the dawn of time. It's almost in our DNA. We love sharing and listening to stories.
If only there were an event that would allow you to share your stories, on a stage, in front of a whole bunch of people. Well, there have been several different organizations that put these on. Moth Story Slams being one of the more public events. We at Toastmasters District 106 don't believe Moth should have all the fun and have decided to put on our event. We've had so much fun, we are doing it for a third time, after a long break!
This event will have mystery; we have no idea who's telling us a story. This event will have drama; we have no idea who will win. This event will have comedy; the theme is "School Daze" and there is bound to be a ton of laughs. This event will be fun; we've got a great Master of Ceremonies (Ray Young). Was it mentioned we are doing this on a proper stage at a comedy club in downtown St. Paul? Well, we are! And it's all free!*
* Please note: This is going to be in downtown St. Paul and parking will have a cost associated with it. Good thing the event is free, right?
Parking info: There is ample metered parking in the area and a surface lot directly across the street ($4)
Food info: You may order pizza at Camp Bar
Venue website: Camp Bar
Rules
The theme is "School Daze." So if you want to tell a story, please bring a personal story about School. You can relive your school days (or maybe your children's school days).
Yes, the subject is vague and has a lot of wiggle room. That's on purpose.
If you want to tell a story, you will put your name into a hat. The evening's entertainment will be ten randomly selected speakers (names will be drawn at 7 PM). If you are selected, you will get a drink coupon. Use it to get something to drink before you speak, soda or otherwise.
If selected, you have five minutes to tell your story with a thirty-second grace period. If you go longer than 5 minutes 30 seconds, we will applaud you off the stage. So be on time. You have been warned.
Judging and scoring are public. Judges will be selected that evening, and will also get a drink coupon. They will publicly put your score on paddles for everyone to see. The winner will take home a Story Spark trophy.
So act now and sign up. Please bring us your story. We want to listen.
