MPLS: To Boldly Go…The Adventures of an Indigenous Space Cadet, with Dovie Thomason

  • Open Eye Theatre 506 East 24th Street Minneapolis, MN, 55404 United States (map)

Internationally-revered storyteller Dovie Thomason "beams down" for a stellar night reflecting on traditional star stories from her father, growing up during the first “Space Race,” falling in love with Forbidden Planet, robots and sci-fi, working with NASA, and the vital place for “Indigenous Science” (also called Indigenous Knowledge Systems) and storytelling in relation to science and technology. Hosted by Kevin Kling.

Linger for an 'after-glow' Q&A with Dovie, Kevin, and special guests following each performance. Tonight: Special guest Pebaami-bines (Dennis Jones), Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies, Bemidji State University, in conversation with Dovie and Kevin on Indigenous lore and cosmology.

“In the past twenty years, I have been braiding original stories shaped by our oral tradition, unspoken stories, erased histories, and imagined futures in hopes of using storytelling as it’s always been used—to show us ways of Being and being together in good relation on this great, spinning star we call Mother.” – Dovie Thomason
